German automobile manufacturer Volkswagen has reported a 9.1% increase in the passenger cars sales to 893,400 vehicles during January and February 2013, compared to the sales of 818,800 units for the same period in 2012.

In February the company sold 401,400, an increase of 0.4% compared to the 399,700 units sold in the same month prior year.

Volkswagen Group Sales and Marketing board member Christian Klingler said the company was not immune to the tough competition and continued uncertainty in the European markets in February.

"However, we compensated for weak markets in Western Europe with growth in the Asia-Pacific region and in Central and Eastern Europe", Klingler added.

In Europe, the company recorded 8% fall in sales to 231,600 units in the year against 251,800 units sold in the last year that includes 11.6% decrease in the sales to 115,800 vehicles in Western Europe excluding Germany from 131,000 units sold in the two months of 2012.

The company delivered 77,000 vehicles in Germany, a 9.4% decline compared to the 85,000 vehicles sold in the two months of the previous year, while in the Central and Eastern Europe, the company's sales increased by 8.4% and 8.7%, respectively.

In January-February 2013, the Asia-Pacific region observed a 27.7% growth in company sales to 425,500 against 333,200 delivered in the same period of last year, which includes a 30.6% increase to 392,300 units delivered in China and 18% decrease to 9,800 units sold in India.

An 802% increase was registered by the North American sales to 90,300 units in the two months, with 60,500, a 4.7% rise in sales in the USA, 7.2% fall to 112,400 units in South America and 5.2% decline in sales to 82,100 units delivered in Brazil.
