Dish said its Super Joey thin-client add-on box for the Hopper whole-home HD DVR platform is now available to subscribers.
First introduced at International CES last January, the Super Joey includes two additional network tuners, giving the Hopper system the ability to record up to eight shows simultaneously.
The feature reduces the chance of channel conflicts while recording or watching live programming, and answers a criticism underscored in commercials from competitors.
Along with the Super Joey, Dish also introduced this year the Wireless Joey and Virtual Joey products to increase the flexibility of extending Dish reception to remote rooms in the house.
The combined Hopper and Super Joey tuners enable watching and/or recording shows from any four channels, in addition to the shows on the four major broadcast networks or five shows from any channel. Super Joey is powered by a 1,305MHz, 3,000 DMIPS Broadcom BCM7346 processor, features remote finder functionality, and supports MoCA and Ethernet connectivity.
